Tanya Matsuda holds an MM and BM from Northern Illinois University in Piano Performance and Pedagogy with additional studies at Bowling Green State University and Indiana University. Tanya received her Suzuki Piano Teacher Training from Dr. Haruko Kataoka, founder of Suzuki Piano Basics, during study trips to Matsumoto, Japan at the Talent Education Research Institute. While in Japan she observed Dr. Suzuki’s teaching and has also attended various workshops and conferences around the United States furthering her Suzuki research. Armena Marderosian has also influenced her in the teachings and philosophy of Dr. Suzuki.

Tanya is the former president of the Columbus Music Teachers Association (CMTA) and served on the faculty of the Csehy Summer School of Music at the Philadelphia Biblical University in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. She is an active member of, and nationally certified through, the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and is also a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Suzuki Piano Basics Foundation.

Mrs. Matsuda’s students participate in competitions, Ohio Music Teachers Association (OMTA) District Festival, Pianorama, Scale Olympics, as well as their solo and ensemble recitals. Students also participate in the National Guild Auditions.

She and her husband, Ken, violist in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, have formed the Nissen Duo and perform together throughout Central Ohio. Mrs. Matsuda is also the accompanist for the Japanese Women’s Chorus (Hanamizuki no Kai).

She and her husband have two grown daughters who still perform music today. She enjoys walks through Inniswood Gardens and her favorite food is bacon.
